* The difference between outcomes and outputs
* How to use a logic model to guide your evaluation planning
* Tips on picking the “right” methodology for your evaluation

Evaluating Social Media

$15 – multiple dates

The past five years have revealed a new era in the United States and around the world – the era of social media. We have seen the rise of social media and its importance in our everyday lives. Because of the popularity and seemingly viral use of social media, organizations have begun to invest time and money into using social media tools, often with little to no understanding of the potential impact on their organizations. This webinar is based on the 2010 Social Media Evaluation Survey of over 600 nonprofit organizations in Minnesota.

This webinar will discuss several case studies of how nonprofit organizations are evaluating their social media efforts, what works and doesn’t work for them, and how to apply those practices to your organization. Attendees will leave the sessions with tips for evaluating and measuring social media efforts, as well as links to online tools.

Using R for Statistical Analysis

Free – multiple dates

With many organizations experiencing budget reductions, and becoming weary of the high cost of SPSS and its add-ons, information about a no-cost alternative is timely. Not only is R free, but it can do pretty much everything that SPSS can do without the costly add-on packages. Additionally, it is open source and has almost unlimited potential. Evaluators can use R for everything from mapping data to making graphs with colors for individuals who are color blind.

This session will include: introducing attendees to R, comparing R to other statistical software, and providing examples of how you can use R in your work.

R Basics

$10 – multiple dates

Statistical software packages such as SPSS and SAS have long dominated the evaluation field as the statistical software packages to use when analyzing quantitative data. In recent years R, a syntax based statistical program, has become increasingly common – yet many evaluators have yet to hear about it. One of the greatest benefits of R is that it is open source and available at no cost. This session will focus on getting attendees up and running with R. Attendees will leave this webinar knowing how to:

* Set-up their working directory
* Upload their files into R (csv, spss, etc)
* Data exploration (structure, head, tail, etc)
* Basic graphs (histograms, density plots, box and whisker plots)
* Adding legends, titles, lines, and more to graphs
* Turn graphs into PNG files
* Determine summary information (mean, median, mode, standard deviation)
