Why are all-volunteer nonprofits awesome?

April 9, 2012

Did you know that more than half of the nonprofits in the United States are estimated to be all-volunteer? Wow. That’s pretty amazing. In fact, all-volunteer nonprofits are pretty amazing. They manage to do everything a staffed nonprofit can do – and more in some cases. Here are the two reasons why all-volunteer nonprofits are awesome:

  1. 100% of all donations go towards the mission
  2. They have a rich collection of dedicated volunteers

Being able to say that all of your donation goes towards the mission can be huge for marketing and fundraising. Obviously, just because you don’t have paid staff doesn’t mean the need for those positions doesn’t exist. Most all-volunteer nonprofits still have people that work in fundraising, communications, etc – they just don’t get paid to do it. This means the make-up of your typical all-volunteer organization includes a very diverse blend of individuals with varying skills, education, and abilities.
